Rajshahi Representative: Police have seized 454 drums of soybean oil and palm oil from a market in Puthia Upazila of Rajshahi.
Rajshahi Additional Superintendent of Police Ifte Khair Alam said the raid was carried out at Baneshwar Bazar in the Upazila on Tuesday afternoon.
He said, “A total of 454 drums were recovered from four warehouses. These drums contain a total of 92,617 liters of soybean oil and palm oil. ”
Of these, 48 drums of soybeans and 26 drums of palm oil were stored in the warehouses of Sarkar & Sons; The truck parked in front of the warehouse contained 60 drums of palm oil, 22 drums of soybeans, and 120 drums of palm oil in the warehouse of Entaj store; There are 3 drums of soybean and 100 drums of palm oil in the warehouse of Messrs. Paul & Brothers and 48 drums of soybean and 27 drums of palm oil in the warehouse of Rhea Store. In other words, a total of 121 drums of soybean oil and 333 drums of palm oil were found.
Each drum contains 204 liters of oil. As such, the total amount of oil [soybean and palm oil] is 92,617 liters.
Ifte Khair Alam said, “Everyone stockpiled oil and created an artificial crisis in the market.”
He said the police conducted the operation on the basis of intelligence information. There will be a case against the stockholders under the Special Powers Act. Then action will be taken as per the directions of the court.
Earlier on Monday, police raided two warehouses in Taherpur Bazar of Bagmara Upazila and seized 27,000 liters of soybean oil.
A businessman has been arrested in the incident and sent to jail under a special powers law case.
