Staff Reporter: Though the government has taken various steps for the welfare of the workers, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that some of their ‘leaders’ like to complain to foreigners.
He made the remarks at a function organized at Bangabandhu International Conference Center in the capital on Sunday morning on the occasion of May Day.
Joining the video conference from Ganobhaban, the Prime Minister said, “Even after all the work we have done for the workers, we see that there are some labor leaders in our country who like to complain to them whenever they see any foreign or white skin.”
“I don’t know why this mental misery, or is there any other interest involved? Are there any debts? I don’t know. “
Assuring the workers to solve all kinds of problems, Sheikh Hasina said, “If there is any problem in our country – at least as long as the Awami League government is in power, at least as long as I am in power, we can at least give this assurance – we can solve any problem ourselves. And I believe that the owners and workers of our country will solve the problem by themselves. “
The Prime Minister said, “Why should we cry against our own country or tell others about our own country? We don’t want that. Bangladesh will continue with self-respect. ”
Wishing the working people a happy May Day, he said, “Even though they have written this day in blood, the workers are getting their due today for their contribution. That is why I want our workers and employers to maintain good relations. “
The development projects of the country were once completely dependent on foreign grants or foreign assistance, but now 90 percent of the annual development programs are being implemented with their own funds, said the Prime Minister.
He said, “We have built this Padma bridge with our own funds, with the money of the entire Bangladesh government.”
Commenting that Bangladesh is now self-sufficient in food, Sheikh Hasina said, “We can solve the problems of the country at home. I will tell those labor leaders to come to me if they have a problem without crying abroad, and I will listen. If I have to collect anything from the owners, I will collect it. I can, I can say that. “
Besides highlighting the various steps and plans taken by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for realizing the rights of working people, the Prime Minister also spoke about the various initiatives taken by the Awami League government.
State Minister for Labor and Employment Munnujan Sufian, Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Labor and Employment Mujibul Haque Chunnu, Secretary to the Ministry of Labor and Employment Md. Elahi, President of Bangladesh Employer’s Federation (BEF) Ardashir Kabir, and Acting President of Bangladesh Jatiya Sramik League Nur Qutub Alam Mannan were also present.
